Well... we finally got all packed and the movers picked up our stuff. We left last night (Tuesday, November 9th), but got a really late start after picking the boys up from their last day at Ms. Karen's. We made it to Grass Valley for dinner, at Jimboy's (Matt's last taste of that for a while)... it was super cold, and after looking at the weather, we figured out it was snowing in the direction we were heading!
We decided to stay the night in Grass Valley... yeah, I know, we didn't make it too far, huh? The boys were both sick last night, Jesse coughing and Gage up about a gazillion times!! I finally had to sleep with him in the chair for about an hour and a half to get to him back to sleep. And, of course, they were up bright and early today... hopefully this day will get easier :)
There are chain restrictions on 80 right now, so we're off to get chains for the car and try to make it through the storm... wish us luck!
Well, it's been a while since we've updated our blog. We've tried to keep up with the pictures, often slow at times, I know, mom! We've been busy this summer, enjoying the kids... they're growing like weeds. Jesse just turned 3 yrs old and Gage is pushing his 16 month mark!!
We've been camping a lot and enjoying our new baby... our Wildcat 5th-wheel. It's like an apartment on wheels! I just started working full-time, so we tried to camp at least once a month to get our fix.
We've been going through chickens and not having such great luck. We keep losing them from one thing or another... but on a brighter note, we have super garden this year... and I mean SUPER!! Matt built us some raised beds and fenced in the garden area. The only problem now is the rabbits... they keep eating through our sprinkler lines! Matt has even put out bowls of water for them... but they prefer to eat our lines, and keep Matt fixing them on a weekly basis!
Well...take a look at the new pictures we've put on... and see what we've been up to for the past few months!
Today we got our first chickens... finally!! Matt has been done with the coop for a few weeks, now, but he still had to work on fencing for the girls. Although that is still a work in progress, we decided to go ahead and get a few chickens to get started. We went to get 2 or 3, but ended up with 4!! Since they have grown up together, we're pretty sure they'll all get along.
We plan on letting them be free-range, but they have to stay in the coop until they get used to their new surroundings... maybe for a few weeks. Compared to their previous home (a wire crate), the coop Matt has built them is a "palace". We hope they enjoy their new home!!
Jesse is dying to play with them... but they're still a little shy. We plan to visit them often so they'll get more comfortable with us. Take a look at the other pics, and see what a great job Matt did with the coop!
Not to brag on Gage, well... I am going to brag. He is the best baby ever!! I know I shouldn't keep saying that, we don't want Jesse to get a complex or anything, but Gage is definitely giving mommy the much needed break she needs. He has been sleeping 8-9 hours a night, without waking up.
He is such a good sleeper... even during the day. I was in the kitchen making brownies, with Gage sitting in his chair in there with me. I turned around and he was asleep... so peaceful!
I hope he keeps this laid back, easy to handle temperament for me and daddy... well, at least until Jesse gets out of his terrible twos... one crazy kid is enough to handle!
For Jesse's actual birthday, me and the boys (Matt had to work) headed out to visit the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. We had a private tour from Brian, the curator. He was so great with Jesse... he let him stand on the trains and touch EVERYTHING!! Which he loved, of course. He even let Jesse use his key to unlock the track switch. We also got to visit the shop where they are working on restoring old trains.
The trains are so neat, there... take a look at the other pictures.
We will definitely visit again... hopefully with daddy, next time!
